1. Introduction

PawTrace ("we") provides smart QR pet tags and a web app that helps reunite lost pets with their owners. This policy explains what we collect and how we use it.

2. Information we collect

We collect information when you create an account, set up a pet profile, or someone scans a tag and reports a sighting. This can include account details when you sign in with Google, pet profile details you add (such as a name, photo, and notes), your contact information, and information submitted by the finder (such as a message, location they choose to share, and a contact method like a phone number).

When a tag is scanned, we log the time of the scan and the device type (from the browser user agent) and send an alert email to the pet owner. We also record an approximate location from the network connection and a precise location only when the finder grants permission. When a finder submits a sighting, we collect their IP address solely for abuse prevention and rate limiting. IP addresses are never visible to pet owners.

Photos attached to a sighting are stored privately and are shown only to the owner of the pet the sighting was submitted for. Email addresses submitted through the signup form on our website are used only to send PawTrace product updates and are not shared or sold.

3. How we use information

We use the information we collect to operate your account, display your pet profile to whoever scans the tag, deliver sighting reports to you, process and ship orders, provide support, and improve the service.

4. Sharing

When a tag is scanned, the pet profile and the contact options you enabled are shown to the finder so they can help return your pet. Payments are processed by our payment provider. We do not sell your personal information.

5. Data retention

We keep your information while your account is active and for a reasonable period after, then delete or anonymize it.

6. Security

We use reasonable safeguards to protect your data, but no system is fully secure.

7. Your choices

You can edit or delete your pet profiles and request account deletion by contacting us.

8. Children

The service is intended for adults and is not directed at children under 13.

9. Changes

We may update this policy and will post the new date above.
